Anxiety, is what you fear real?
The
anxiety
state, is a sense of exagerated apprehension,
a sense fear, often from obtuse physical or
mentally induced threats, are not rare. In
nature the alert animal on sensing a threat
will run away or fight. We infer that in
nature a physical threat emotes fear or anger.
If, for example, a camper is awakened by
a bear peering into the tent, we expect an
immediate reaction of fight or flight.
(Though immobilization from fright could occur)
The reaction to fear and anger generates a release
of adrenaline by the sympathetic nervous system.
The described situation, anxiety, equates to a stronger,
faster heart beat, and, for humans, awareness of
the heart beat, and palpitations may occur, along
with sweating and tremulousness and apprehension.
Additionally, rapid shallow breathing and
paradoxical air hunger and overbreathing may occur.
The overbreathing causes a respiratory alkalotic
tetany, with possible tingling in the fingers and
chest tightness. Giddiness may coincide. Breathing
into a paper bag ameliorates the acid-base imbalance
from the carbon dioxide blow-off.
When the above described signs and symptoms occur
without the presence of a physical threat, it is
called a panic attack.
Generally the apprehensive state is much more
moderate. And, along with fear and anger, other
similitudes for unresolved tension sustainments
are worry, guilt, dissatisfaction, frustration
and indecision. Even in the scripture is there a
warning against harbouring some of these. And,
whereas in nature the flight or fight situation
is usually resolved within a short time, we here,
are concerned with unresolved ongoing anxiety.
Sometimes our unresolved tensions are repressed and
become subliminal. Let us consider then, that I (we)
might have a propensity to substitue a pleasurable
act for an unresolved conflict. Thus, in the
situations of being overweight, of excessive
alcoholic intake, of smoking, are situations for
which it may benefit to look below the emotional
surface to understand why you do as you do?
Chronic apprehension has its carry-overs. An
increase of the blood pressure, peptic ulcer,
and headache, overeating, smoking, alcoholism
and drug addiction, all are impaled by it.
In our daily sojourn we all deal with matters of
greater or lesser concern. The term 'anxiety' is
generally deemed too strong for the lesser daily
concerns, but, consider, whether a concern is
small or big, it is useful to try to use this adage;
"Accept the things you cannot change, and do what
you can with what you can change."
